Emma W. Smith Reappointed Vice Chair of ABA Tax Litigation and Controversy Committee

Comiter Singer is pleased to announce that Senior Counsel Emma W. Smith has been reappointed as Vice Chair of the Tax Litigation and Controversy Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law (RPTE), effective September 1, 2026.  

The Tax Litigation and Controversy Committee brings together attorneys from across the country to examine developments in tax controversy practice, provide educational programming, and foster discussion on issues affecting taxpayers, practitioners, and the legal profession. 

“Emma brings an extraordinary level of experience to the tax controversy field, and her continued service in this leadership role reflects the confidence her colleagues place in her,” said Michael S. Smith focuses her practice on U.S. federal income tax, including the taxation of partnerships, limited liability companies, and S corporations; income and estate planning; and federal tax controversy. Before joining Comiter Singer, she spent more than 14 years as an attorney with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, where she litigated cases before the United States Tax Court and advised IRS personnel on complex tax matters.
