Emma Smith Appointed Vice Chair of ABA Tax Litigation and Controversy Committee
Comiter Singer is pleased to announce that, effective September 1, 2025, Senior Counsel Emma Smith will be appointed to serve as Vice Chair of the Tax Litigation and Controversy Committee within the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law.
The Tax Litigation and Controversy Committee focuses on procedural and practical developments related to disputes with the Internal Revenue Service. Its areas of emphasis include IRS administrative appeals, litigation strategy, settlement techniques, and proceedings before the U.S. Tax Court, Court of Federal Claims, U.S. District Courts, and appellate courts.
Emma Smith is an experienced federal tax litigator with extensive knowledge of IRS procedures and tax controversy matters. She advises and represents clients through every stage of a federal tax controversy, including IRS examinations, administrative appeals, and litigation before federal courts. Prior to joining Comiter Singer, Emma spent 14 years with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, where she advised Internal Revenue Agents on complex domestic and international tax matters and litigated on behalf of the IRS before U.S. Tax Court.
